Handle join requests

Let people ask to join instead of inviting each one, and approve them safely.

Join requests let someone ask for access instead of waiting for an invitation. Useful for a large intake, and worth understanding before you turn it on.

Turning it on

Go to Settings → Security & Data and enable join requests. Anyone who can find your organization can then send one. Nobody gets in without an administrator approving them.

Reviewing requests

Pending requests appear on the Members page under their own tab. For each one you can see who is asking, then approve or decline.

When you approve, you choose their role and which projects they should be attached to, the same decisions you make when inviting someone. Do not skip the projects, because a member with none cannot track time.

Declining removes the request. It does not blacklist the address, so they can ask again.

Before approving

  • Confirm you recognise the person and the email address. A join request is a stranger asking for access to your organization's data.
  • Pick the narrowest role that lets them work. You can widen it later.
  • If they are a client instead of a colleague, approve them with the Client role.

When to leave it off

For a small, stable team, invitations are better: you decide who is asked, and nobody has to remember to check a queue. Turn requests on for an onboarding push, then turn them off again.

Seats

Approving consumes a seat, exactly as an invitation does. If you are at your plan limit, approval will fail until you free a seat or upgrade.
