Clients often want to see progress without being able to change anything. The Client role covers that.
How client access works
A client's access comes from the projects you attach them to, not from a list of permissions. Attach them to one project and that is what they see. A client cannot reach a project you did not attach them to.
Inviting one
- Go to Members and invite by email.
- Choose the Client role.
- Select the projects they should see.
- Send it. They set a password and land on a much smaller version of the app.
You can add or remove their projects at any time afterwards.
What a client sees
- A dashboard limited to their projects.
- Those projects, and the tasks on them.
- The time tracked against them.
- The screenshots taken for them, if your organization captures screenshots.
- The Project report for their projects.
- Their own invoices, meaning what they owe you.
What a client never sees
- Any project they are not attached to.
- Other clients, or that other clients exist.
- What you pay your team: member pay rates, payable invoices, member finance.
- Your organization's settings, billing or subscription.
- Your project margins or costs.
The one thing they can do
A client can mark their own invoice as paid. That is the only write action available to them anywhere in the product, and it is limited to invoices for their own projects. They cannot un-mark it, and they cannot touch anything relating to member pay.
Seats
Clients do not consume a member seat. Your plan has a separate client allowance, so giving clients visibility does not cost you a licence for each one.
Before you invite a client
Look at the project as they will see it. Screenshots and tracked time are visible to them if your organization captures them, so if your team would be uncomfortable with a client browsing their screen captures, decide that before the invitation goes out.
