Projects end. What you do at that point decides how easy the history is to find later.
Mark it complete
The normal ending. The project moves to Past Projects, stops appearing in the active list, and drops out of members' trackers so nobody tracks against it by accident.
Nothing is destroyed. Every hour, screenshot, task and invoice remains, and the project keeps its own page. If you completed it too early, mark it incomplete and it returns to the active list.
Put it on hold
For work that has paused instead of finished, such as a client gone quiet or a dependency you are waiting on. It stays visible and flagged. Resume it when work restarts.
Cancel it
For work that will not happen. Like completing, it preserves everything and records a different ending. Cancel unpaid invoices raised against it, or they will sit in your list forever looking due.
Delete it
Deleting removes the project from the lists but keeps its history intact. Hours that were tracked against it still count in totals and reports, marked as belonging to a past project. Deleting a project must never quietly change what a member worked or what a client was billed.
Finding past work
The Past Projects tab on the Projects page lists everything that has ended, with its tasks and its time. Reports have an Include past projects option, off by default so the current picture stays clean. Turn it on whenever you are comparing periods, or a completed project's hours will be missing from the comparison.
Before you close a project
- Generate and send any final invoice. Closing does not raise one for you.
- Transfer ownership if the owner is also leaving.
- Check for unpaid invoices, and cancel the ones that will never be paid.
