Work the task board

Columns, dragging, the list view, filters and bulk actions: the day-to-day of the board.

Open Tasks and choose a project. Each project has its own board, because columns belong to that project's workflow.

Moving work along

Drag a card to another column to change its status. The change saves immediately and there is nothing to confirm. Dragging is the same operation as picking a status from inside the task, so use whichever is quicker.

Board view and list view

The board is for seeing where work is stuck. The list view is for working through many tasks at once. It shows the same tasks as rows, which is easier to scan and to sort when there are a hundred of them.

Finding a task

Search by title, or by task number if you know it. Every task gets an identifier like PROJ-123 that is stable and safe to quote in a chat or a commit message.

Filters narrow the board by assignee, priority, and whether a task has relations. There are also quick filters for assigned and unassigned work, which is the fastest way to find things that have fallen through the cracks.

Working on several at once

Select multiple cards to act on them together. Bulk delete is there for clearing out a batch of duplicates or an abandoned import, and it asks for confirmation because it is not reversible.

Tasks and tracked time

If your organization requires a task before a timer can start, the board is where members find them. A task with no assignee still appears on the board, because assignment is for accountability and not access.

Why a task will not move

  • Your role may allow editing only your own tasks, or assigning them only to yourself.
  • You may not be a member of the project.
  • A task on a completed project is read-only. Mark the project incomplete first if it needs changing.
