Start and stop the timer

The everyday loop: pick a project, start, work, stop. Plus what to do when you forget one end of it.

Tracking happens in the desktop app. If it is not installed yet, start there.

Starting

  1. Open the desktop app and check that the correct organization is selected.
  2. Choose the project you are working on, and a task if your organization asks for one.
  3. Press start. The clock begins immediately and does not wait for the server.

If the project list is empty, you have not been added to any project yet. Ask an administrator to attach you to one. There is nothing you can do about it from the app.

While it runs

The app keeps counting whether or not you are online. If your organization has enabled them, screenshots are taken on a fixed interval and your keyboard and mouse activity is recorded minute by minute. It measures how much you were working, never what you type.

The app lives in your system tray, so you can close the window without stopping the timer. There is also a keyboard shortcut for starting and stopping without switching windows.

Switching projects

Stop the current timer, change the project, then start again. That produces two clean entries instead of one entry attributed to the wrong project, which is much easier to correct later if you need to.

Stopping

Press stop. The entry is written locally straight away and synced within about a minute. Your timesheet in the browser will show it shortly after.

If you forgot to start it

Add the time by hand on your timesheet. You will be asked for a reason, and your organization may limit how many days back you can go.

If you forgot to stop it

Stop it now, then correct the entry on your timesheet. Either edit the end time, or split the entry and delete the part you were not working. Very long sessions are flagged instead of dropped, so nothing disappears while you sort it out.
