The desktop app is how time is tracked. There is no timer in the browser, so this is the first thing to do after you join an organization.
Get the installer
Open Get Desktop App in the sidebar, or go to the download page directly. Pick the build that matches your machine. Every build on that page is the same version, so you are choosing a platform and not a variant.
What you need
- Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, or a supported version of macOS.
- An internet connection for signing in and syncing. Tracking itself works offline.
- Your StaffVertex account, already verified, and membership of at least one organization.
Windows
Run the installer and follow the prompts. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning the first time a new version is seen. Choose More info and then Run anyway. Nothing unusual is being asked for.
macOS
Open the disk image and drag StaffVertex into your Applications folder. On first launch macOS may ask you to confirm you want to open it.
macOS also asks for two permissions the app needs: screen recording, if your organization captures screenshots, and accessibility, so the app can tell whether you are active at the keyboard. Decline them and the app still runs, but screenshots and activity will be blank. You can grant them later in System Settings under Privacy & Security.
Keeping it up to date
The app updates itself. When a new version is available it downloads in the background and applies on restart, so you do not need to revisit the download page.
Have it start with your computer
In the app's own settings, turn on Launch on system login. It is the simplest way to avoid discovering at four o'clock that you never started the timer.
