Open Reports → Project Report. This is the one to look at when someone asks how the work is going.
What each row shows
- Status: In Progress, On Hold, Completed, Delayed or Cancelled.
- Progress: the share of the project's tasks that are finished.
- Deadline, with due-today and overdue called out.
- Hours tracked over the range.
- Budget utilised: how much of the budget the work has consumed.
- Average activity for the time on it.
At risk and overdue
The at-risk filter is the quickest daily use of this report: projects past their deadline, or close to it with work outstanding. If you look at one thing each morning, make it this.
Progress comes from your board
Progress is the proportion of tasks sitting in the column marked as the project's done column. Two consequences follow:
- If no column is marked done, progress reads zero however much is finished.
- Tasks left in a column that was renamed or removed are not counted, which shows up as progress lower than the board looks.
Both are fixed on the board's column settings, not here.
Budget use is not profit
Budget utilisation compares work done against the budget you set. It says nothing about what you were paid or what the work cost. For that, use Project Finance.
Clients can see this one
A client attached to a project can open the Project report for it, and only for it. It is the report designed to be seen from outside, so it carries no rates and no margins.
