Screenshots are optional. Many organizations never switch them on. If yours has, this is what happens.
When one is taken
Only while a timer is running, and only on the interval your organization has set, commonly every five or ten minutes. Stop the timer and capturing stops immediately. Nothing is captured when you are not tracking.
What is captured
An image of your screen at that moment, with the time it was taken and the project and task you were tracking. If your organization has set a blur level, the image is blurred on your own machine before it is uploaded, so the unblurred version never leaves your computer.
Who can see them
- You, on your own dashboard and on the Screenshots page.
- Administrators and anyone whose role includes viewing screenshots.
- A client attached to the project, if your organization captures screenshots. Check that before you assume they are internal.
Screenshots are never public, never shared outside your organization, and never used for anything other than showing them on these pages.
If you are offline
They are captured to your own machine and uploaded when you reconnect. A gap in the feed during an offline stretch fills in afterwards, and you do not need to do anything.
Deleting one
If a screenshot caught something it should not have, such as a password manager or a personal message, ask an administrator to delete it. Deleting a screenshot does not touch the time it was taken during, so the hours stand.
If nothing is appearing
- Screenshots may be off for your organization. Ask before assuming a fault.
- On macOS the app needs screen recording permission. Grant it and restart the app.
- Nothing appears until the first interval has elapsed.
- If the organization has hit its storage limit, capturing pauses until the plan is upgraded.
A word to administrators
Tell your team before you turn this on. The desktop app is open about what it records, but people finding out by seeing their own screen in a feed is a bad way to learn it. Say what is captured, how often, who can see it, and how long it is kept.
