Choose what the desktop app records

Screenshots, idle detection and app tracking, all in one settings screen, and what each choice costs your team.

Everything the desktop app records is controlled from Settings → Desktop App Settings. Changes reach people's apps within a minute or two, and nobody has to reinstall anything.

Screenshots

  • On or off for the whole organization.
  • Capture frequency: how often one is taken while tracking. Which intervals you may choose depends on your plan.
  • Blur intensity: off, light, medium or heavy. Blurring happens on the member's machine before upload.

More frequent captures mean more storage and more to review. Every ten minutes is enough for most organizations.

Idle detection

  • On or off.
  • Threshold: how long with no keyboard or mouse before the stretch is treated as idle.
  • Action: keep the time, discard it, ask the member, or stop the timer.

Choose the action to match the work. Discard suits work that is constantly hands-on. Ask the user is fairer where reading, calls and design review are normal, because the member decides and you still get a record of the decision. A threshold under five minutes will produce constant interruptions.

Application and website tracking

Two separate switches: track which applications are in use, and track website addresses. Either can be on without the other. Both feed the Apps & URLs page.

Website tracking records the address of the site, which is more revealing than the application name alone. Decide carefully, and say so.

Activity strictness

Set in Settings → Work & Time Settings instead of here, but part of the same picture. It decides how hard someone has to be working for a minute to grade as Medium or Hard.

What none of these can do

The app does not record what you type, read your files, capture your camera or microphone, or watch you when the timer is off. Monitoring covers tracked time only.

Announce changes

Turning monitoring on, raising the capture frequency or removing blur are all changes people will notice. Tell them first. A short message beforehand costs nothing, and discovering it in a feed costs trust.
